Counting the Cost

For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? ~Luke 14:28
I'm backing out of the purchase of the land I was buying. There were just several things that weren't coming through in time, and after carefully considering what all the little things were likely going to cost I decided it wasn't worth it to go forward.

I really hate to back out of the deal, but that's what escrow is for. I'm losing my earnest money, plus the money I paid to the Water and Sewer District to do the availability study. I might still build a house, but if I do, I think it will be on a smaller scale. One of the things I didn't like about this was that it was going to tie up most of my money for an extended period of time.

  1. That's really stinky, too bad.

But on the bright side of things, God MUST have some sort of plan, and God-plans are always better than man-plans!

Okay, excuse me while I, like, go drool milk myself. I think I need to be re-trained how to eat.

  2. I know this is off topic, but I notice you are from Renton. You would not happen to be in an assembly affiliated with the Renton division of the Tunbridge Wells Brethren?

  3. You must do what you think is best, Tim. Sometimes what sounds like a great idea is not so great after all.

  4. Matthew,

I live in Renton, and I am from a subset of the TW Bretheren, but to my knowledge there is no Bretheren assembly in Renton, WA. If you somehow know of such a group, please let me know, as I would love to meet them.

My home assembly meets in Newcastle, WA. I also frequently attend an assembly in Tacoma.

  5. The Renton division occurred in the early twentieth century.

There was a TW Brethren assembly in Renton which refused to admit a couple who had been divorced and remarried to the Lord's Table. This had of course never been much of an issue in the Brethren and the majority of TW Brethren could not accept the Renton Brethren's action. Thus, the Renton division occurred.

This division should not be confused with a division of the Raven/ Taylor Brethren who are named after a man called Renton.

    Every Blessing in Christ

    Matthew

  6. I have a new idea. Instead of buying a house, you should buy a motorhome. Or a tour bus. No. You should buy a boat! A house boat! (Sorry, I keep coming up with better and better ideas.) Or you know, one of those boats that's like a mini-house. I think you can get one of those in Des Moines at the waterfront (have you ever been down there? if not, then you should go there). There's a boat that you can go to and they sell things, like boats and stuff!
