Sick

I'm sick. Blech.

I think it's the first time I've been too sick to go to work. Yesterday I went to work, but after an hour I was so tired and felt so bad that I just left. Today I slept in and e-mailed my boss to let him know I wasn't coming in. I slept most of the day yesterday, which may or may not have had to do with the Nyquil that I took after I got home.

I haven't been this sick in years. Not because I'm coughing up blood or anything (which, just to be clear, I'm not), but because when I get sick it usually isn't something that puts me down: a mere head cold or sore throat. That's how this started. I went to see Sarah H. on Tuesday night, and when I got back, my nose was stuffed up. I figured it was an allergic reaction to something in the woods, or pipe smoke, so I didn't think anything of it. I recently found out that I may have some serious tree allergies, but going to Sarah's hasn't hurt me before, so it was kind of weird that all of the sudden I had such a strong reaction. Anyway, I got some antihistamines on Wednesday, which appeared to help a little with the stuffiness, although my throat was by this time thouroughly raw due to the snot dripping down the back of it. Sitting at my desk Thursday morning trying to do work, I realized that I couldn't concentrate; my muscles were aching and I was uncommonly tired. So I put two and two together, filled out my time for the day, fired off an e-mail to my boss, let my supervisor know, and made a B-line for my pillow.

Obviously this is more than allergies. I'm certainly experiencing an immune reaction, but I think my body is perfectly justified in its defensiveness. I made a doctor's appointment for this afternoon.

I have the most succulent cantaloupe right now. I must have cut it up at the perfect time. It literally melts in my mouth. No chewing required, I just squish it between my tongue and the roof of my mouth. So juicy sweeeet. Mmmmm... my precious.
